Recently bought a Sony Ericsson K610i (very cheap, and very good — so far).

Using my prepaid SIM, I connected to Smart 3G. It was frustrating at first since I can’t seem to be able to connect, but after tweaking with the settings (dumbness on my part — I never really had to add nor change anything), I was finally able to browse the internet. The result:

  1. there’s a little known or publicized note about SMART 3G : it won’t be available until 24 hours after your first call or text using the new phone/sim. probably accounts for your initial difficulty, and your subsequent and mysterious no-settings-change-but-now-it-works scenario. :)

  2. Hmm… Funny the CSRs at the two (!) Wireless Centers I visited didn’t mention that. ;) Thanks for this — I feel much better now that I know I wasn’t that stupid after all.
