I’ve posted on Pinoy Tech Blog my thoughts on delivering services and content through internet rental shops.

The ICT Roadshow is off to Northern Luzon. Yesterday, they were in Bacnotan, La Union, and now they’ve stopped in Vigan, Ilocos Sur. View the ICT Roadshow Google Maps mashup.

Extension workers in our recent basic ICT training had a hard time using the mouse. Makes me wonder if we are using the right medium for delivering agricultural information to our, er, clients (farm technicians, agricultural extensionists and farmers).
Of course, there’s always mobile phones and text messaging, but there are technical constraints — you can only squeeze so much info in that small screen. If only we can find a way to connect our clients through that ubiquitous medium in a richer manner. Mobile 2.0, perhaps? In the countryside? We’ll see.
The countdown begins for the first-ever Pinoy Farmers ICT Roadshow, which will kick off on its Northern and Central Luzon leg on March 26.
IT-equipped buses from the Department of Science and Technology will roam the countryside and park at designated stops to introduce farmers and extension workers to agriculture information being made online by the Pinoy Farmers Internet.
Here’s an expansion of my previous post on the ICT caravan. Incidentally, I’ve blogged about it in our very aptly named “PFI Blog“. (Heh. We’ll think of a sexier name, promise.)
The Caravan, which will run from March to April, will feature the following:
- Cyber farm forum (multisite videoconferencing)
- Rice science and technology updates
- Agricultural videos
- Introduction to computers and the internet
- Pinoy Farmers’ Internet
- Enrolment in the Open Academy’s Virtual Classroom
- Text messaging for farming tips
- Experts online
- Rice Knowledge Bank
- Other important agricultural websites
- Online trading and real-time price watch of agricultural products
- Knowledge products for sale
- Maps and directories
- Last-mile connectivity solutions
- Open source software
